Hello Everyone,
The following letter is from Cooper
Tools, the manufacturers of the Weller 100 soldering irons. They
are recalling all Weller 100 irons made in roughly the last four years.
Please check your iron using the steps below if you purchased it within
the last four years. Or bring it in and we can check it for
you. Another clue is if the cord has the words ''GOLD MARK"
stamped on it, that iron is part of the recall.
The irons need to be returned to initiate the replacement
process. You can bring your iron in and we can send
it back with the ones we have. Or you can handle it
yourself. They are very eager to get the irons back.
However, they are 6-8 weeks away from having replacement irons to send out.
We have a few irons we will have available for short term loan if you
have projects that need to be finished before you get your replacement.
Call or email with any questions.

Important - Product Safety Notice
Subject: Product Return -W100 Soldering Irons
It
has come to our attention that the power cord in certain soldering
irons sold by Cooper Tools and shipped between August 1,2006 and May
12,2010 (the "Affected Products") may not function properly. This may
result in the cord breaking at the flex point where the cord is
inserted into the handle. All units shipped outside the Affected
Product dates above fully meet our quality standards.
Please
IMMEDIATELY STOP all shipments of Affected Products and return all
Affected Products still in your inventory for replacement units at no
charge. These fixtures have date codes between August 2006 and May
2010. The Affected Product models and a sample date code are pictured
on the following page. The date code appears on the heating element and
is shown as MONTH YEAR (eg. Jun 08). To access the date code, make sure
that the unit is unplugged and cool, then remove the flanged barrel
that is secured to the handle by screws. If, for any reason, you are
unable to locate the date code, reference the ship dates above to
determine whether returnable product has been purchased.
Your IMMEDIATE attention is required in locating and replacing in-stock products that
may be in service at end user locations. Please call (800) 476-3030, ext. 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday to initiate the product replacement process. This letter must also be used to notify any customers who are affected by this product safety notice.
This program is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission, which will monitor the further effectiveness of this program.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the integrity of these products. We regret
any inconvenience this may cause you and your customers. Because Cooper Tools is
committed to providing safe and reliable products, we believe this action is necessary.
Sincerelv.
